leaving Dingle

We slept in a little longer this morning and had breakfast at 9:00am.  We finally learned the names of the two servers, Mae and Uraka (she is from Lithuania – my father was Lithuanian!!!).  Shared some more conversation with Helen, who is a delight.  Her words, “you use this to think with (pointing to your head) and you use this to dance with” – pointing to the lower half of your body.  Helen is from a town north of Dublin and Brian is from Limerick.  Both worked in hotels and built the Castlewood Country House 8 years ago.  The house is fabulous!!

Our drive from Dingle to Killarney took a little less than 2 hours.  The drive took us through the country giving us more great views of the Irish countryside.  We pulled over to take photos of Inch Beach.

Next stop is Killarney, better known to Jessica as “K-1”.  We have Killarney, Kinsale, and Kilkenny on the itinerary and all the K’s are confusing her.  🙂

Slea Head Drive

IMG_1951The Slea Head Drive is a winding NARROW coast road that is a 50-mile loop. Along the drive you can see the Blasket Islands, and breath taking views. Many of the road signs are written only in Irish.

Wednesday, day 8

Breakfast this morning was wonderful, since I could have the Warm Bread Pudding again. Emma joined us this morning and tried all the meats, cheeses, yogurt, granola, and fruits. Jessica ordered the Eggs Benedict Supreme and I had the Bagel Supreme.

day 2 in Dingle

Chef Brian prepared an Omelet filled with Bacon, Baby Spinach Leaves, and Melted Swiss Cheese for Cynthia and a Toasted Warm Bagel topped with Cream Cheese and Smoked Salmon served with Scrambled Eggs with Chives for Jessica. I found the Warm Bread Pudding offered on the buffet table to be the best!

Jessica and Emma visited the Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium in the afternoon.

IMG_1847

I spent my time walking around and exploring the village more.  IMG_1839 IMG_1842 IMG_1843

Emma and Jessica picked out the Dingle Pub for dinner.   It was early evening alittle past 5:00pm and there were about ten people in the Pub, of which one older man sitting at the bar kept dropping his head down on the bar falling asleep, another man sitting with friends had his head back sound asleep.

DINGLE!!!!!

As far west as you can go in Ireland, is the Dingle Peninsula. The village of Dingle is a fishing port filled with brightly coloured houses and traditional pubs.

IMG_1715

We treated ourselves to ice cream at Murphy’s. I had half scoop of Caramel Honeycomb and half a scoop of Sea Salt.

3 nights in Dingle

IMG_1786We are staying at the Castlewood House in Dingle for three nights. The House is located at the far end of the village right across from the shoreline of the Atlantic. It is a beautiful house and our room is just lovely! We are not coming home… they are going to have to kick us out.

Monday morning

Our hosts, Denis and Eileen, at the Adare Country House have made us feel very welcomed to Ireland. They have a daughter named Emma, so we have a connection. Denis helped me last night call the Irish toll system since I did not pay my M50 toll leaving Dublin within 24 hours. Denis also gave us advice on where to buy petrol (gas). Denis said he paid 110 Euro to fill up his car last. 1 Euro = $1.35. Eileen made Jessica and I the Full Irish Breakfast and Emma had the French Toast.

the lovely village of Adare

Jessica and I made it down for breakfast and left Emma to sleep in a little longer.  We both enjoyed the Poached Eggs over Toast with Cheese on top served with Sausage and Tomatoes.breakfast.2.marless

Left Salthill around 9:30am and arrived in Adare two hours later. Light rain, mist, and a little fog on and off with overcast skies. Our room at Adare Country House was not ready to check in so we walked around the village and stopped in Pat Collins Pub for Emma to get a bite to eat and Jessica and I enjoyed Baileys Coffee. An Irish Coffee is coffee with a shot of Jameson Whiskey.
